Thomas Clagett 1732 Will
Of Prince Georges County, Province of Maryland
In the name of God amen. I Thomas Clagett of Prince Georges County in the Province of Maryland being very sick and weak and body but a perfect sence and memory praise be almighty God for the same and calling to mind the certainty of death doe make and ordain this my last will and testament and manner and form following, my soul I recommend to almighty God hoping through the merits of my Savior Jesus Christ to receive full pardon and remission of all my sins. My body I commit to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my executor hereafter named. And for what worldly goods it had pleased God to bestow on me I give and bequeath as follow, Viz.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Prather her heirs and assigns forever one hundred acres of land lying near the Beaver Dam Branch in Prince Georges County.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Clagett her heirs and assigns forever the remaining part of ye tract of land aforesaid lying near the Beaver Dam aforesaid being one hundred fifty acres but if in case the tract of land aforesaid lying near Beaverdam before said should not contain three hundred acres of land according to survey, then my true meaning is that the tract of land lying near the Beaverdam aforesaid be equally divided between my daughter Elizabeth Prather and Sarah Clagett their heirs or assigns forever, be the quantity more or less.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my two sons John Clagett and Charles Clagett their heirs and assigns forever, the remaining part of attractive land called Clagett's Purchase after my son Thomas Clagett half 200 acres laid out for him according to my deed of gifts lately executed to be equally divided between the aforesaid John Clagett and Charles Clagett their heirs or assigns forever being about five hundred and seventy acres of land.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my loving wife her heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcels of land called _____ containing about three hundred acres of land which I purchased of Hugh Riley, the said land to be sold by my said wife & the purchase money to be added to the credit of my personal estate.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Mary Clagett one third part of all my personal estate of what kind so ever after my just debts are fully satisfied and paid, and the legacy hereafter bequeathed.
Item. I give and the queen unto my daughter Sarah Clagett one feather bed and furniture.
Item. I give and bequeath unto my three daughters the remaining part of my personal estate after satisfaction made as aforesaid & my funeral charges paid & and my daughter Sarah legacy taken but Viz my daughters Martha Clagett Marguerite Clagett and Anna Clagett.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and teste this day this twenty sixth day of January 1732.

Then came Charles Beavin, John Clagett, Jeremiah Berry and Richard Keene and made oath on the holy evangelist of almighty God that they saw and heard Captain Thomas Clagett the deced testator sign seal publish and declare tho wth in will to be his last will & testament, and at the time of so doing, he was of sound and perfect memory to the best of their apprehension and in his presence, & at his request they subscribed to the same as evidence sworn before.
