[5518] Robert Valentine Phelps (1904) was born to Robert Law Smithsend Phelps and Maria Florence Phelps(nee West). Robert was 12 yrs. old when his mother died (1916). His father took care of him, but he himself died fourteen months later (1917). It appears that my father travelled from Wagga Wagga New South Wales to the Phelps family in Dunolly, Victoria. They were unable to include him in their family home as Robert Valentine Phelps (Ledbury 1820) had died in 1905. Dad then travelled to Malvern, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. His uncle and aunt, William and Kate West, took him in to their family home. At a later point of time, he changed his surname from Phelps to West out of respect to them. -- Ruth Villani West, daugher of Robert Valentine West
