[104] In the 1810 Census, Thomas Sanford is shown as having Males: 2 children under 10; 1 child 16-16; 1 person 45 years upward; Females: 1 child 26-45; and 10 slaves.

[51] BIOGRAPHY: Lucy Sanford and Julia are sisters. After Lucy died at age 31, Samuel married her younger sister when she was 20 and he was 30.

[54] In 1860, the value of her real estate is given as $8,190, and her personal property as $19,635. Since slaves were considered personal property, this is probably a good part of her worth at this time. In 2002 this would have been equivalent to $533,085. After The War of the Rebellion, the slaves had a value of zero. Julia's will was probated in Prince William County, Virginia. All it says is that she leaves everything to Thomas J. Claggett, her son, who moved to Illinois after she died. -- Linda Ball Gibson

[12102] In 1867 the post office moved from Conrad's Store a mile or two to George Sanford's Shoemaker Shop and named "Roadside". He appeared on the census in 1860 in Rockingham County, Virginia. -- The information on George Sanford is courtesy Claud M. Sanford cmsanfo(at)comcast.net

[12100] It is said John had six children.
