[117] DIES IN ILLINOIS Mr. James William Claggett died at his home in Lexington, Ill., Friday, May 10, after an illness of several months. He was born near Warrenton, Va., in 1851 and was the second son of James A. and Catherine Claggett. His boyhood home was near the seat of war during the four years of that titanic struggle. Their house was near the first Bull Run battlefield, and many times the armies of both North and South were camped on their farm. In 1866 the Claggett family moved to Illinois and settled in Lexington. In 1880 Mr. Claggett was married to Miss Melissa C. Horney, who with a son and daughter survives him. He also leaves a brother, R. T. [593] Based in part on notes compiled by Ruth Matella Beasley. Mrs. J. W. Claggett LEXINGTON, Jan. 21 -- Mrs. J. W. Claggett, 79, died suddenly at her home here Friday night. Anemia was given as the cause for her death. She had not been bedfast. Melissa Horney, the daughter of Mr. and Mr.s Hexekiah Horney, was born in Ohio and came to Lexington with her parents when she was two years old. She has lives here since that time. Her husband died several years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Amy Claggett, a teacher in the grade school here, a son, E. T. Claggett of Chicago and four grandchildren. [596] Based in part on notes compiled by Ruth Matella Beasley. Amy never married. Miss Amy Claggett LEXINGTON - (PNS) - Miss Amy M. Claggett, 78, a retired schoolteacher, died at 5:45 am Wednesday [July 7, 1960] at Brokaw Nursing Home after suffering a stroke May 25. Her funeral will be at the Musselman Funeral Home here at 3 p. m. Friday with the Rev. Robert Shobe of Neponset officiating. Burial will be at the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 10 p. m. Thursday at the funeral home Miss Claggett taught at Le Roy, Atlanta, and Lexington schools and retired in 1932. She was born in Lexington Jan 11, 1887, a daughter of James W. and Melissa Horney Claggett. Surviving are a brother, Elmer T. Claggett of 601 Pine in Normal.
