Yesterday morning Mr. Amos Phelps passed away. Had he lived until today he and his devoted life partner would have been wedded for fifty years. Mr. Phelps had not been well since last December and was noticeably failing. The silent messenger called him hence at half past four o'clock yesterday morning. His death has removed an honest and upright man of christian character, and a prominent citizen. Mr. Phelps was 79 years, 8 months, and 9 days old. He was a native of Rougemont, Canada, and left there to take up his residence in Wisconsin. From there he came across the plains to California in 1851. Two years later he returned to Wisconsin and on February 25, 1853, was married to Miss Maria C. Lyon, the wife who survives him. Six children were born of the union, of whom two daughters are living. They are Mrs. L. P. Latimer, wife on the artist, of San Francisco, and Miss Frances Phelps. In 1887 the family returned to Santa Rosa and have since resided here. Mr. Phelps was a man of great integrity. He was a devout member of the Episcopal church, and for number of years was senior warden and a member of the vestry in the parish of Delavan, Wisconsin and Santa Rosa. The funeral will take place from the family residence on Healdsburg Avenue on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock. The very Rev. A. L. Burleson will be the officiating priest. The interment will be private.
