[367] In the 1850 census, the value of real estate owned is $500. Value of land owned in 1880 census in Alton, Illinois: $500. In 1873, Dr. S. A. Christy owned 160 acres in the NE corner of Township 3 North, Range 9 West of Madison, Illinois. By 1880, according to the census, Margarete M Christy was widowed; her father was from Virginia and her mother from Pennsylvania. "Illinois Deaths and Stillbirths, 1916-1947." Index. FamilySearch, Salt Lake City, Utah, 2010 reports on the death of his son Marion L. Christy that Stanford was born in Ireland. 1910 United States Federal Census Illinois Madison Wood River District 0069, for Marion Christy, his son, reports that Sanford Christy's birthplace was Ireland. Depending on which census is used, Sandford was born in Ireland, Tennessee, or Virginia. When self-reporting, the census (1850) says Virginia. When reported by his son, Tennessee (1880, 1910).

[375] An application for insurance to the Modern Woodmen of America by Guy Christy gives his mother's age at death (80) and her date of death. The 1880 census lists "M. M. Christy", age 64 (b. 1816) in Kentucky. Living with her is a daughter, "E." age 25, and a son, Oscar, age 17. The street name on the census is "Main Street." "Illinois Deaths and Stillbirths, 1916-1947." Index. FamilySearch, Salt Lake City, Utah, 2010 reports on the death of his son Marion L. Christy that Margaret's last name was Clark.

[302] Based on conversations with his grandaughter, Anna Christy Phelps. He died when she was a teenager. Also based on 1880 Census, Vol 39, E.D. 14, Sheet 16, Line 24 the family lived on Manning Street in Alton, Illinios, and that George was 'deaf and dumb' and employed as a 'Lightening Rod Agnt'. A notarized document signed by Herbert's grandmother, attests to grandson Herbert Christy's birth at 714 South Fourth Street, between Ohio and Tennessee Streets, in Paducah in Oct 1898. The 1900 census shows them still residing at that address: Christy, G. W. Head Feb 1841 Lizzie Wife Sept 1848 George son June 1881 George's occupation at age 14 is given as "telegraph operator." According to the 1910 census from Santa Cruz, George employment was "own income." His headstone is inscribed, "Geo. W. Christy CO F 27 ILL INF". His military records are spelled "Cristy". He is listed as, "Cristy, George W Pvt F 27 IL US INF [from] ALTON." Mustered Aug 17, 1861, discharged "Jan 1, 1864; disabil." His Civil War pension records are found under George W. Christy of Kentucky and California. George originally applied for his pension on 12 June 1889; his widow Lizzie applied for the pension on 28 July 1913, Certificate No. 766,157. This date is at variance with his death date of 5 Jul 1915. His pension card states that his disability "nearly total deafness, both ears, res. in total deafness of same." It also states that he lived at 7 Benito Way, Santa Cruz, California Civil War Battles/Campaigns Engaged in by the 27th Illinois Infantry Regiment from 1861 to late 1863 include Belmont, New Madrid/Island No. 10, Siege of Corinth, Stone's River (Murfreesboro), Tullahoma Campaign, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge (Chattanooga).

[7831] The 1880 census lists "M. Christy" as a "lightning rod agt" with a different age than that of George William Christy; the wife's name is also Sarah, but her age is also wrong to be the wife of William Christy. The child's initials also do not match George William Christy's children. So we apparentlly have another Christy sibilng, which is why I added him here.

[7835] Her occupation in the 1880 census is "seamstress."

[7837] His occupation in the 1880 cenus is "clerk in store."
