[13615] Died of insanity per film 0185476 Was injured early on in his tour with in the Civil War. Was hospitalized with "miasmatic disease" which was an infection from unsanitary battlefield conditions. He was treated with mercuric medications which cause chronic diaharia and ultimately insanity. This was very common during and after the Civil War. The hazzards of mercury-containing substances was not known until much later. He was buried in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Westfield, MA in the Hoadley lot, Lot 23, Tier 6, Section 2-1. Thomas had an older sister, Mary Ann, who married Charles Henry Hoadley. Evidently, the Hoadleys offered their lot as an alternative to a pauper's burial.
