[12438] 1840: Found on Poll List in Buckingham Co., Va. (Oakville Precinct).
1848: Deed to sister, Sarah Ann (Spiller) Bocock.

He came to Danville, Montgomery Co., Texas on December 22, 1848 after having been on the road in wagons and on horseback for 11 weeks. We have a copy of portions of his diary of the trip. He arrived at the home of his brother, Dr. Samuel Fielding Spiller. He built a large Virginia-style home in Danville. Son, William, was only about a year old during the trip. He learned to walk along the way.

The Austin-Twyman Collection in the Earl Swem Library at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia contain the papers of his brother, James Madison Spiller, who stayed in Virginia. Reels 7, 20-24 contain these papers. There are several letters written by George Anderson Spiller to his brother, James, shortly after arriving in Texas. These papers contain much information about the Spiller family during the 1800's. And it is interesting to note that George informed his brother,James, in one of the early letters, that his intentions were to return to Virginia as he found the land in Texas unsuitable for crops. He is buried in the family cemetery, Old Danville Cemetery, aka Shepard Hill, north of Conroe, on Shepard Hill Road, with his family and many descendants of his son, William. This private cemetery is still in use today.

[1172] AKA "Susan J."

On the trip to Texas from Lynchburg, Virginia, family tradition is that Susan carried a beautiful pitcher on her lap that had been a wedding present. This pitcher later sat on a mantle in her son's home and is still owned today by a descendant. Her initials are engraved on the silver top "SJS".

Family tradition is that Susan buried both of her children by herself with the help of a slave because of the fear of contracting the fever that the children died from. She buried them with her husband on their land which eventually became the Danville Cemetery and is now known as"Old Danville Cemetery" aka Shepard Hill. She used to sit on her front porch and stare out towards the cemetery where her husband and two daughters were buried.

She ran a hotel in Danville after the death of her husband.

The descendants of Susan Diuguid and George Anderson Spiller is courtesy of Karen Lucas .

[12437] Built Esperanza Plantation North of Willis, Montgomery Co., TX ca. 1880's and grew tobacco and cotton.

William came to TX in 1848 from Virginia with his parents when he was a year old. They originally settled in Danville, Montgomery Co., TX (the town is now extinct). Articles on this family can be found in "Montgomery County History", 1981, compiled by the Montgomery County Genealogical Society.
