She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Hal; a daughter, Joyce Shields and her husband, Jackie, of Keller, Texas; a son, James R. Weeks Jr. and his wife, Martha, of Salem; and six grandchildren, Kelly, Rodman, Jim, Josh, Jeremy and Bill; as well as a host of aunts, nephews, nieces, and close friends. Funeral services will be conducted at Lotz Salem Chapel at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2008,with the Rev. Jim Angle presiding. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. [1353] Mrs. Blanche Claggett Strayer
In the prime of a young, bright and joyous life, Mrs. Blanche Claggett Strayer was called from earth by the death messenger last Monday morning at 3:45 after thirty-six days of sickness with typhoid fever. Blanche Claggett was the next youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Claggett and was born in this city January 16, 1871 and was at the time of her death 25 years of age. She received a thorough education in the schools of this city and her rare musical ability was rounded out and given a finished cultivation in St. Mary's College of South Bend, Ind., and St. Mary's College of Knoxville, Ill. She was married to L. B. Strayer, an active young business man of this city, April 28, 1892, and this union was a particularly happy one. There were born to them two children, Jane, aged 3 years and Elaine, aged 6 months, both of whom are living. Mrs. Strayer was of a bright and winsome disposition and was a general favorite in society where she was admired for her many graces of mind and person. In point of musical ability, she stood high and was always ready to devote her rare musical talent to the use and pleasure of all. Her home life was an exemplary one, being a devoted wife and mother. Her immediate surviving relatives are her husband, L. B. Strayer, two infant daughters, her mother, Mrs. S. R. Claggett, two sisters, Mrs. S. J. Van Dyke of this city and Mrs. Carrie Hatcher of Colfax, two brothers, W. H. And B. J. Claggett of this city. The funeral services took place at the Strayer residence at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. O. W. Stewart of Mackinaw made a short, feeling and appropriate funeral address. Rev. Ward of this city assisted in prayer and a quartet of singers added to the simple beauty of the ceremonies. The interment took place in the Lexington Cemetery. The floral tributes in memory of the departed were many and beautiful.

Louis died at the age of 47. Per the Washington County courthouse records, he died of tuberculosis but according to Donald Habeck, his Grandma Bertha said Louis died of yellow fever which spread north during the Spanish and American War of 1898.
According to Donald Habeck, Louis actually died on Jan 5, 1900 (not 1899) and was buried on January 9, 1900 in the Buffalo Cemetery.
After her husband, Louis died Bertha never remarried and is now buried with her daughter Katie on a cemetery in Kewaskum on the East side of town.

[11359]
From Bernie Backus:
His records show that Frederick was born on December 8, 1833 in Prussiaand died on January 12, 1922 (I show he died on November 7, 1896)???
[11358] Augusta was not listed on the printout from Steve Marquardt; however, Ifound her listed on death records in Washington County Courthouse withfather listed as Gottlieb Backhaus.
Steve shows that Augusta was born Aug 2, 1842 and died Nov 15, 1928 inAuburn (this info was from a later update from Steve M after the aboveinfo).
Nancy shows that Augusta was born Jan 11, 1844 and died Sept 25, 1935.
Bernie shows that Augusta was born Aug 2, 1842 and died Jan 12, 1922.
[11360] I showed her as being married to Charles Maertsch.
Steve M. shows an Augusta Wilhelmina Albertine as a sister to Minnie andshowed that Augusta was married to a Carl Mertz. This could possibly beone and the same person.
