[12125] DAR Bible Records says died 1905 at Denver, Colo. A member of the Episcopalian church in Griggsville. Also bought a hotel in Havana, Illinois, about 1870 about one hundred miles from Griggsville. The box-shaped brick Taylor House was one of the oldest hotels in the state. Lincoln had slept there many times.
Note: There is a George Hamilton Sanford as head of household in 1840 Census of Carroll County, Georgia (probably not this George Sanford as he would have been 16 at the time) From Lois Norman's notes George H. Sanford went to sea with Capt. John Lowery Sanford in 1830.

[14760] They were first cousins. After they eloped and were married, they went on an around the world honeymoon which would take over three years to complete. They were in India when Ellen ate contaminated fruit and died of Cholera. The grief-stricken Anson had his wife's body embalmed, placed in a metallic coffin, then in an ebony casket, and brought home to St. Simon's Island, Georgia.
Anson restored the Episopal church on St. Simon's Island, which had been ruined by Union troops during the Civil War, using the $200,000 he inherited from his wife upon her death. He had his own money though he never was profligate with it. His wife was placed in a lead vault under the altar of the church, and he finished the building as a memorial to her. She was to rest there until the time came for him to join her.
