[p.51] John Phelps, (1756-1841), was at the battle of Rhode Island;served in the Light Dragoons and, 1781, was promoted to lieutenant of atroop of Horse. He was placed on the pension roll 1832 for service in theConnecticut line. He was born in Enfield; died in Colebrook.

[10203] I can not find any information on Louisa but in the 1860 U.S. Census Ihave found a Fredericka living with this family. So I assume that hername was Fredericka L.J. In the Catholic church, the children were givenadditional names as they progressed in the church which is why so many ofthe children have so many middle names.

I have also listed a second marriage for her to Carl Schultz. This hasto be verified yet, dates, etc. I found in the land records in theWashington County Courthouse that Christian and Charlotte (Krueger)Backhaus sold some land to a Carl and Louise (Backhaus) Schultz for$1.00. So the question right now is, was she married first to JohnBartelt (marriage record found in Washington County Courthouse) and thenmarried a second time to Carl Schultz?

[11292] George II (of Great Britain and Ireland) (1683-1760), King of Great Britain and Ireland (1727-60), and elector of Hannover (1727-60), the son of King George I.

George was born at Herrenhausen Palace in Hannover (now in Lower Saxony state, Germany) on November 10, 1683, and he grew up a German prince. In 1705 he married Caroline of Ansbach, an intelligent woman who wielded great influence over her husband and thereby on government. Like his father, George II was more interested in Hannover than in Great Britain, and during his many absences from London Caroline frequently acted as regent. During the war of the Austrian Succession (1740-48), the king subordinated the interests of Great Britain to those of his German principality. This policy was unpopular in Great Britain, but the king won admiration for his courage at the Battle of Dettingen in Bavaria (1743), the last engagement in which a British monarch participated in person. George II contributed to the material progress of Great Britain, mainly because he was shrewd enough to listen to his wife and heed the advice of his ministers. He retained Sir Robert Walpole as chief minister only upon Caroline's insistence, and he later relied on Henry Pelham, and, toward the end of his reign, William Pitt the Elder, although he originally had a great dislike for him. George's reign was marked by the suppression of the last major Jacobite rebellion (see Jacobites) and by the successful prosecution-at Pitt's initiative-of the Seven Years' War. He was succeeded by his grandson George III. George died at Kensington Palace, London, on October 25, 1760.

When Clarence was 7 years old, his parents moved to Golden Corners, whenWilliam and Anna Backhaus moved on the farm. Then 3 years later theymoved back when William and Anna bought their own farm in Kewaskum.Clarence worked on the homestead, helped on neighboring farms and trappedanimals in nearby woodlands and creeks. He then sold the skins formoney. He also walked 2 miles to school each day and even in winter.

[11373] Harley and his brother, Wilbur never married. They lived together on afarm in Wayne, Wisconsin and raised peacocks all of their lives.

When William Christian and Anna (Scheid) Backhaus got married, they livedon this farm for a few years until they bought their own farm inKewaskum.

Harley and Wilbur also used to deliver milk.
